windows 10 games suitable for learning disabled adults

The above pictures are screenshots i have taken of the games that i know are good in different ways for adults with learning disability, you will need to download a free gaming app-made by a company called valve-its called 'steam' which is available on most computer formats including windows, linux, mac OSX and ipadOS (although ipadOS version wont allow you to play the games on it but you can view what games you have, and answer messages on it).

then you need to set up an account, and set up a way to pay for the games that cost-although some games are free but the ones on my slide show are not.

if you have a relative with LD who has little understanding of money, you can set up their/your card to have a one time password, so that every game has to be allowed through by whoever owns the phone that the 'steam' account is attached to-i know this as this is how my apointee deals with my top up mastercard.

make sure you have got the hard drive space to install games on,a lot of modern games, especialy big ones like FORZA horizon 4 are over 100GB in space,i had to buy a special external game drive that holds 1TB  and unlike almost all external drives moves data very fast,if your interested its called the western digital P50 NVMe SSD game drive. using a wired xbox one control pad seems to work very well with no problems, with steam-sometimes steam can have problems with bluetooth control pads. ONE OTHER possible issue you may come across is the PC/laptop itself, ie- is the graphics card onboard or dedicated? how much dedicated RAM does it have,if any? what is the processor/how many cores does it feature and how fast will it work on average?

these are points that you need to check before downloading any game because the computer may not be able to run them, i have a gaming laptop for example with two graphics cards (one,a geforce RTX 2060,the other is onboard radeon graphics which is a shitter graphics card but has more RAM),a ryzen 7 (4000 SERIES) processor (8 cores) and i STILL get a warning every time i launch FORZA horizon 4 that my computer is sub standard. this is the problem with laptops especialy they arent bug tested to the same level as PCs are so some games wont even run on computers with an onboard graphics processor.

ALWAYS CHECK WHEN USING STEAM- minimum specification and make sure your computer is above that otherwise its not worth risking buying the game.

if you want to know what parts your computer has-theres a good free windows app called speccy, i use it,it even tells you the temperature of bits and pieces.

SO WITHOUT ANY MORE MESSING, HERE IS THE LIST OF RECOMMENDED GAMES,IN NO ORDER:

  • +FORZA HORIZON 4 -a game where you can drive around much of britain in your collection of cars, without having to race against anyone if you dont want to. you can take it slow, driving around part of britain like the lake district or edinbourugh or race against other gamers-or against the computer itself. you will see other gamers driving around the map and they may try and play with you but the communication is kept to a minimum, only a few different words are allowed to be typed which is a good thing if you are  using a wired xbox one pad OR a steering wheel is easier than using the keyboard and mouse.

  • GOOD=DRIVING AROUND BRITAIN,OPEN WORLD CHILLED AND CALM DRIVING OR RACING-YOUR CHOICE, COOL SOUNDTRACK, COLLECT AND AUCTION OFF CARS...

  • BAD=YOU NEED A FAIRLY DECENT PC/EVEN BETTER LAPTOP TO RUN IT...

  • +SPIRIT OF THE NORTH -a game where you play as a fox spirit, there is no ability to die as such like maybe a shooting game, its an exploration game, some puzzlles these can be hard but you can get help with these or look on youtube or google for a level walk through-theres lots of help out there.

  • GOOD=AMAZING GRAPHICS, YOU PLAY AS A MYSTICAL FOX, CUTE STORYLINE (THOUGH SAD COME TO THINK OF IT),YOU CAN TAKE YOUR OWN TIME,ITS VERY CHILLED. .....

  • BAD=YOU NEED A FAIRLY GOOD COMPUTER TO RUN IT, PUZZLES CAN BE QUITE HARD IN PLACES AND YOU MAY NEED HELP LIKE I DID, IF YOU COME BACK TO IT AT A LATER TIME YOU CAN FORGET THE DIRECTION YOU WERE HEADING OR WHAT POINT OF THE PUZZLE YOU WERE IN (I HAVE NO SHORT TERM OR WORKING MEMORY DUE TO EPILEPSY)....

  • +STARDUST-a cheap game in which there is no dying as such,  the environment is completely black except for stars that you must fly towards to collect and these attach to you so it makes a huge spread of colour, its almost like painting with stars.because of its more simple nature you dont get the feeling of motion sickness like you can with other games, its a big galaxy that constantly makes new stars to collect-there is no end and you can control it with either a control pad (easier to do for people with fine motor skill difficulties) or keyboard. the music is very calming so it coud be used for coming down from anxiety.

  • GOOD=ITLL RUN ON MOST COMPUTERS, ITS ADDICTIVE, ITS EASY TO PLAY AND YOU GET ENOUGH REWARD IN THE FORM OF ACHIEVEMENTS AND A SENSORY EXPERIENCE, THE MUSIC IS CALMING, VERY GOOD FOR ANXIETY, NO MOTION SICKNESS....

  • BAD=IT ISNT FULLY CONTROLED BY THE CONTROL PAD,YOU STILL NEED TO TURN IT ON WITH A MOUSE....

    • +STARDEW VALLEY- a game in which you look after a abandoned piece of land and chop down all the weeds and old trees and build your own farm very slowly. there is no death as such, its just a crafting game with calming music. it might be hard for some as there are lots of tools that need to be used. this is quite a cheap game.

    • GOOD=ITS QUITE CALMING, THERES NO CHANCE OF DEATH, ITLL RUN ON CRAP COMPUTERS AND EVEN LINUX, IF YOU BUY IT ON YOUR PHONE,YOU CAN CONNECT IT TO A SMART TV USING THE 'STEAM LINK' APP AND ITLL LOOK FULL SCREEN....

    • BAD=TAKES A VERY LONG TIME TO GET A GOOD FARM BUILT UP-NOT GOOD FOR PEOPLE WHO EXPECT QUICK REWARD,ITS GRAPHICS MAY PISS SOME PEOPLE OFF.

    • +OKAMI HD-okami was originaly on the playstation 2. you play as a spirit wolf, and the game is easy to get used to but it does have boss levels which some may find hard. the graphics and art work are amazing and look beautifuly cel shaded. very easy to play, and due to the cel shaded graphics this causes a high contrast in colours which makes it easier for many learning disabled adults process visuals better.

    • GOOD=OKAMI HAS A BEAUTIFUL ART STYLE THAT HAS NEVER BEEN BEATEN,A VERY BEAUTIFUL SOUND TRACK AND A SENSE OF HUMOUR IN PLACES THAT APPEALS TO MANY LEARNING DISABLED ADULTS, YOU PLAY AS A SPIRIT WHO IS IN THE FORM OF A WOLF, ITS EASIER TO VISUALY PROCESS DUE TO ITS HIGH CONTRAST GRAPHICS,....

    • BAD=YOU NEED A FAIRLY GOOD COMPUTER TO RUN IT PROPERLY,FOR THOSE WITH FINE MOTOR DIFFICULTIES CAN BE QUITE CHALLENGING LEARNING THE PAINT BRUSH FIGHTING MOVES, CAN ALSO BE QUITE CHALLENGING LATER ON IN THE GAME...

    • +MEADOW-meadow is an online only game where you are a wild animal in a almost minecraft style environment, theres no death but you learn to interact with other animals (ie other players in the game) and no understanding of written or human language is needed as communication is done through its own style of visual emoticons, animal noises and behaviors, the community is incredibly friendly-i worried about this when i first got meadow-if id be treated badly as ive experienced so much cyber bullying but you are treated the same as anyone else in meadow- such an amazing gaming community. if you have bought any of the 'shelter' games-you can play the main breed of animal  within meadow (theyre all by the same developers) exept i dont recomend the shelter games for learning disabled people as they are very difficult, and can be very information overloading ,they are visualy difficult to make out colours and shapes if you happen to have poor visual processing to,plus difficult to pllay on top which made me very pissed off and give up on them, but meadow is a very different thing altogether. there are things to do within the game like collect things which gives you extra emoticons, new animal noises and  skins. its not expensive either.

    • GOOD=ITS REALLY CHEAP,CAN BE PLAYED EASILY IF YOU ARE A NON READER, ALSO CAN BE PLAYED IF YOU USE A TOBII EYE TRACKING DEVICE,EASY TO GET USED TO, LOTS OF NICE PEOPLE ARE USING THE GAME AT THE SAME TIME AS YOU AND YOU CAN SOMETIMES END UP MEETING PEOPLE YOU NEVER WOUD DO NORMALY-SUCH AS OPEN MINDED NON DISABLED PEOPLE, NO DEATH THREAT, NO MURDERING,  NO CHALLENGE IN THE TRADITIONAL SENSE,BUT THERE IS LOTS OF THINGS TO DO TO KEEP YOU GOING,RUNS ON COMPUTERS THAT HAVE LESS THAN THE MINIMUM SPEC (I KNOW AS IVE TESTED IT).....

    • BAD=THERE ARE GETTING LESS  PEOPLE ON THE MAIN EUROPEAN SERVER WHICH COUD EVENTUALY MEAN THEY SHUT DOWN THE ONLINE SERVERS AND MEADOW WOUD HAVE NO ANIMALS IN IT OTHER THAN YOU.

    • +LOST EMBER -lost ember is another game where you can take your time exploring everywhere, you can take over the bodies of different animals so one minute you might be a capybara and the next minute-a fox. similar to spirit of the north but not quite.you can die in this but you just get put back in the same place, like if you fall off a cliff, but there are no attacks from other animals, this game is more for chilled out exploration.

    • GOOD=ITS DIFFERENT TO EVERYTHING ELSE OTHER THAN SPIRIT OF THE NORTH MAYBE, ITS ABSOLUTELY STUNNING,

    • BAD=IT CAN BE FAST PACED IN PLACES FROM WHAT I REMEMBER, ITS A BIT BUGGY WITH THE GRAPHICS, IT RARELY GOES ON SALE AND WHEN IT DOES THEY DONT REDUCE IT BY MUCH MONEY, IT NEEDS QUITE A GOOD COMPUTER TO RUN IT PROPERLY, YOU NEED A GOOD SHORT TERM MEMORY....

    • +CALICO -calico is a beautiful game where you become the owner of a cat cafe, but you have to make the cafe styled in your way,so buy the furniture, collect the cats from the forest, anyone you know with learning disability who loves cats will love this game as its not difficult to get used to and there is no threat of being killed in it,the only problem arrises if the individual is transgender-or doesnt identify as the gender they are physicaly, non binary for example, because when you first design your characters body, you can only pick overly feminine shapes and clothing, which isnt great for LGBT folks like us and i have been chatting with other users of calico about this issue. perhaps the developer didnt realise how well loved cats are by biological both males and the LGBT community.

    • GOOD=CATS? CATS? AND MORE CATS? YOU CAN BRING CROWS AND OTHER ANIMALS INTO YOUR CAFE, GRAPHICS ARE UNUSUAL BUT AWESOME AT THE SAME TIME,GREAT CONTROLS WITH A CONTROL PAD, ONE OF MY FAVOURITE GAMES OF THE YEAR, EASY TO GET USED TO, NO DEATH THREAT,RUNS ON MEDIUM TO LOW SPEC COMPUTERS QUITE WELL.....

    • BAD=LACK OF LGBT SUPPORT, NOT RECOGNISING LGBT OR BIOLOGICAL MALES AS CAT FANATICS TO...

    • +AWAY: THE SURVIVAL SERIES -AWAY is a brand new work in progress (but fantastic all the same) game where you play as a sugar glider ,but you can also posess the body of other animals in one of the two modes that you can play. AWAYs developers are constantly fixing bugs and sorting out the upkeep its definately in it for the longhaul and its worth a look for any adult with learning disability who fancies an exploration game with a bit more challenge, just make sure to use a control pad- it doesnt work well with the keyboard/mouse combo-this is largely why there are so many negative reviews-there from people who dont have a control pad or theyve not got a decent enough computer to run it. some of the textures in the game are not high contrast so it can be hard to visualy process what your looking at if like me-this is something you struggle with. worth a go,i waited 2 years for its release and got it the second  day it was out.

    • GOOD=ITS A BEAUTIFUL SUGAR GLIDER!, BEAUTIFUL GRAPHICS!  TWO DIFFERENT MODES FOR DIFFERENT MOODS,QUITE EASY TO CONTROL WITH AN XBOX ONE PAD-DONT BOTHER WITH KEYBOARD/MOUSE COMBO UNTIL THE GAME IS FULLY PATCHED. A CALMING DAVID ATTENBOROUGH TYPE VOICE ACTOR NARRATES PARTS OF THE GAME YOU DO, LEARN ABOUT ANIMALS AND INSECTS IN THE FORESTS, LEARN ABOUT SUGAR GLIDERS AS YOU GO ALONG....

    • BAD=CAN BE CHALLENGING IN PLACES, NEEDS A GOOD COMPUTER  WITH ENOUGH MEMORY TO RUN IT,  TO MANY UNFAIR REVIEWS MAKE IT LOOK SHIT BUT THEYRE BEING UNFAIR TO THE DEVELOPERS WHO HAVE SPENT YEARS ON THIS AND ARE FURIOUSLY FIXING EVERYTHING BEING REPORTED TO THEM...

    • +

    • SPYRO REIGNITED TRILOGY- anyone who had a playstation 1,they may remember spyro- it was brightly coloured, very easy to get used to and based around a purple dragon in a world of dragons. spyro reignited trilogy is the three original games for the price of one, they have been remastered, they now have voices and the graphics look amazing. its an easy game to follow and get used to, you will really need to play this with a control pad though. these can be bought cheaply from shops like GAME (in the UK),i have a wired PGP afterglow xbox one control pad, it changes colour like fibre optics, you can see inside it as it rumbles and works and it works perfectly with the steam app. i very recently got the game on a steam sale which was about £8,its usualy 30 something pound.

    • GOOD=JUST LIKE OLD TIMES BUT BETTER GRAPHICS, ENOUGH CHALLENGE FOR THOSE WHO NEED OR WANT IT, GOOD VOICE ACTING, OLD STYLE MUSIC JUST LIKE OLD TIMES,ITS REMASTERED,

    • BAD=YOU NEED A FAIRLY GOOD COMPUTER TO RUN IT PROPERLY, CAN BE DIFFICULT TO CONTROL IN PLACES IF YOU HAVE POOR FINE MOTOR SKILLS....
